Welcome to our guide to a better nights sleep, this guide is designed to improve your understanding of sleep, from how to deal with problems getting to sleep, or simply how to get more of it. Full of useful tips, helping you to make the right bedding decisions for your family, guests, and of course, yourself. We are all waking up to the link between a good night’s sleep and improved physical and mental wellbeing. But too many of us still neglect our bedding, settling for poor quality, one size fits all that are not fit for purpose. At The Linen Cupboard we specialise in all the hard to find sizes and not only offering specialist sizes but essential to ultimate luxury bedding options. We all want to lead healthier lives, and for many that means changing diets and exercising more. However, it’s easy to forget that a great night's sleep is a crucial ingredient to feeling great each and every day.
High quality comfortable bedding is key for great nights sleep, its important to have somewhere where you can just melt into a deep peaceful sleep however having strong stable regular bedtime routine is important too, as without a regular sleep pattern, your body clock will struggle to cope. However, if you are unable to go to bed at the same time each night, try to get some routine in the hour before you go to bed. Steer clear of devices and blue screens, like tablets and smartphones. Or why not have a bath or a shower to help you relax and unwind then cuddle yourself up in one of our luxury thick towels and get nettled into your cosy bed for a long relaxing nights sleep.
Some people wonder why they always sleep better in a hotel! Apart from the relaxing environment, bedding quality can affect sleep. One study looked at the benefits of a new bedding can enhance your sleep and additionally, poor-quality bedding can lead to uncomfortable sleep. The hotel experience is now easily recreated at home and without spending a fortune and our Hotel and Hospitality section provides this service, whether you want one or one hundred. It is recommended that you upgrade your bedding at least every 5–8 years. You don't realise how bad your bedding is until you replace it!
The wrong pillow can really be a pain in the neck, and leave you feeling out of sorts in the morning. We have a wide range of pillows to support every type of sleeper! If you are struggling to get comfy then browse through our extensive collection of pillows and find the perfect ones. The worst part about old pillows unfortunately is the hygiene and the affect on your health. We shed millions of dead skin cells everyday with a lot of them ending up in our pillows, thanks to us spending several hours a day laying on them. By the time your pillows are two years old, 10% of their weight is dust mites and dead skin cells.
To keep your pillows in tip top condition, we would recommend washing every 6 months. A good habit to form is to wash your pillows when switching your duvet for a new season. Before cleaning your pillows, always check the care label on the pillows for clarity on washing temperatures and the suitability of tumble drying and dry cleaning. Given the generous fill in pillows, we recommend using a professional laundering service at your local dry cleaner. Their large capacity washing machines and dryers are best suited to the dense fills of these products. If you do choose to wash your pillow at home it is essential that you do not overload your washing machine and that it is 100% dry before using to avoid clumping or ruining the filling.
We all wash our bed sheets frequently, but how many of us can say we are as diligent about laundering our duvet? After all, washing the bed linen every week can be tedious enough, let alone the rest of the bedding. But our duvets take a real battering (around 56 hours a week), the sweat, dribble, dead skin and other grime from our heads and bodies (sorry!) is getting all over them. It’s known that duvets can harbour both live and dead dust mites, skin scales and fungus, which can lead to allergies and infections. Years can go by without duvets even getting a wash never mind getting replaced, so for the ultimate healthier, happier sleep maybe its time for a new duvet.
