Packaging is an unavoidable part of everyday life. And that applies to beding too however we have put in certain procedures that are minimising our carbon foot print. Protecting the world we all live in. Here at the Linen Cupboard we use packaging everyday for many reasons, for one we like to protect our products. Meaning you can take delivery of the products at the highest standard possible. Packaging also helps as it allows for safe transportation. We are passionate and committed to the ethical sourcing of all our products, and using as many recycled materials as possible.
However, the unfortunate truth is that packaging is often viewed as waste. Even worse, packaging often ends up this way too. Even though most of our product and transportation packaging can be recycled and used again!
Here at the Linen Cupboard we buy recycled boxes from a local Cardboard Recycling Centre, corrugated cardboard has a recycling rate of around 84% in the UK. This is actually the highest recycling rate of any type of packaging, and is aided by well-developed recycling streams and processes. We encourage all of our customers to recycle all of our packaging we sent our products in. All of our mailing bags we use are a minimum of 50% consumer recycled waste polythene. All of the mailing bags contain biodegradable properties, our green bags that some customers may see are 100% biodegradable and we are working towards making all our plastic mailing bags this way too. A positive result of this is even if the bags end up anywhere other than a landfill site you can be safe in the knowledge that over a short period of time the bag will start to degrade and bio- degrade.
Even with our high quality bed linen we try and keep packaging and card inserts down to a minimum and just let the quality of the bedding speak for itself. At least 50% of our products are made in the UK and made locally to us in the UK, therefore cutting down on fuel and transportation.
Therefore a key consideration of good packaging design involves the generation of less waste following the end of its’ useful life, whilst still providing a first class service and having the confidence that the packaged items are safe and well protected. We are committed and working with all our suppliers to move to 100% recyclable plastic packaging on all our ranges and we will update you with our progress as soon as we are able to.
